Swine flu victim dies in Hawke’s Bay

A 22-year-old male, who had an underlying health condition, died on Tuesday morning (August 9) in Hawke’s Bay Hospital’s intensive care unit.

His death is suspected to be from pandemic H1N1 Influenza, although this is yet to be confirmed by the Coroner.

Results from tests returned on Wednesday afternoon (August11) confirmed he had the pandemic influenza strain H1N1.

The man’s death has been referred to the coroner. Queries regarding this case should be made to the Hawke’s Bay Coroner.
