House of Travel and Hospice continue partnership

MEDIA RELEASE

2nd September 2010

House of Travel and Hospice NZ continue their partnership

House of Travel and Hospice New Zealand are pleased to announce that their successful partnership will continue for a further three years.

The House of Travel and Hospice New Zealand partnership was established in September 2005, and for the past five years has been raising awareness and educating the public about the services Hospice provide in local communities.

“We are delighted to continue our relationship with the team at Hospice New Zealand.  Our local communities are hugely important to House of Travel, and we’re proud to work closely with Hospice and their unwavering philosophy of care,” says Brent Thomas, Retail Director at House of Travel.

“House of Travel’s around the country have truly embraced the relationship and actively work with their local hospice to support them with the work they do for people in the local community,” continues Thomas.  “Our partnership provides unique character and team building opportunities for our House of Travel staff.”

Hospice New Zealand CEO, Mary Schumacher, agrees that the positive effects of the partnership have been widespread.

“We are thrilled with what has been achieved over the past five years and are excited about what the next three will bring. Each member of our hospices around the country works closely with their local House of Travel. In practice the partnership means that each hospice has a strong extension into the community, working with a team of people willing to go the extra mile in so many ways.”

As part of its support House of Travel provides Hospice New Zealand with donations, scholarships allowing fundraising coordinators to attend professional development conferences and prizes for volunteers, as well as public relations, HR and marketing support. House of Travel staff are also given paid leave to work in their local hospice.

Hospice has a philosophy of care and extends beyond the physical needs of a person. It extends to their emotional, spiritual and social needs as well.  Everything hospice provides is completely free of charge.

Hospice is dedicated to helping people live every moment in whatever way is important to them. Hospice’s aim is to celebrate that life and ensure both they and their family are receiving the care and support needed.
