ASH delighted Bill picked for tobacco display ban

Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) congratulates Labour MP Iain Lees-Galloway on having his Smoke-free Environments (Removing Tobacco Displays) Amendment Bill picked from the ballot of private Members Bills.

“ASH has advocated for many years for the removal of retail tobacco displays. To see the displays finally removed will provide a supportive environment for those quitting smoking and protect children from being exposed to tobacco marketing,” said ASH director Ben Youdan.

“We hope that this Bill receives widespread support from Parliament. We saw early this year an unprecedented level of support across the house for an increase in tobacco tax.

That measure has been proven to work and we urge that the pressure is kept on the tobacco industry when this Bill is introduced,” concluded Mr Youdan.
