New CEO for New Zealand Medical Association

The New Zealand Medical Association (NZMA) is very pleased to announce that it has appointed a new Chief Executive Officer.

Lesley Clarke, the current Executive General Manager of Medibank Health Solutions New Zealand Limited, will commence her new role with the NZMA in early June.

Ms Clarke’s previous roles include CEO of the Researched Medicines Industry Association, and Executive Director of the New Zealand Private Hospitals Association.

She also worked at the NZMA from 1997-1999, as the Manager Policy and Development and Deputy CEO.

NZMA Chair Dr Peter Foley says that Ms Clarke was an outstanding candidate and was selected, following a rigorous selection process.

“She has a very strong track record in advocacy and government relations, stakeholder management and strategic, financial and operational management. Lesley is well respected in the Wellington political health scene and will bring a wealth of experience to the role.”

Ms Clarke says she is delighted to be joining the country’s foremost pan professional medical organisation.

“The NZMA is a strong and effective advocate for doctors and their patients. There are many issues within the health sector that need to be progressed and I look forward to the challenges ahead.”

Ms Clarke replaces Cameron McIver who was NZMA CEO for 15 years.

NZMA Operations Manager Anna Phipps will continue as Acting CEO in the interim.
