The many faces of Parkinson’s

The many faces of Parkinson’s

The 1-7 November, 2011, is Parkinson’s Awareness Week which will be marked with a variety of events and activities around the country.

Over 10,000 New Zealander’s live with Parkinson’s. Kathy Jenkins is one of them.

What I like about the theme The many faces of Parkinson’s is that it reflects the reality of Parkinson’s in New Zealand. Parkinson’s can affect anyone from any walk of life. Many people think of Parkinson’s as an older retired person’s condition but I was in my early 50’s with young children when diagnosed.

With the right support and education Parkinson’s is manageable which is why I would like to ask people to support Parkinson’s New Zealand and the invaluable work they do.

Parkinson’s affects one person in every 500, both men and women. Although it is more common later in life, people in their 20s, 30s and 40s can also develop the condition.

Parkinson’s New Zealand provides support, information and education for people with Parkinson’s, their carers, families and health professionals.
