Easter holiday help just a phone call away with Healthline

4 April 2012

Illnesses and accidents have a habit of happening at the worst times – such as when you’re away from home, or far from medical facilities. But if you’re out and about this Easter, remember help is just a phone call away with Healthline – 0800 611 116.

Someone in the family might get a tummy bug, a cold or flu, or cut their foot. Whatever the health issue, and whatever time of day or night it is, you can call Healthline free from a landline or mobile phone.

General Manager Davis Lemke says it’s a good idea to take the Healthline number with you when travelling.

“Hopefully you won't need it, but it’s peace of mind to have the number close at hand.”

Healthline’s registered nurses give callers advice on the best thing to do in the case of illness or injury. That could be to see your GP or visit the emergency department immediately, or to see your GP within 24 hours. Up to 40 percent of callers are given information to safely manage the condition themselves, and advice on what to watch out for. A small percentage of callers are put through to 111 or have an ambulance called for them.

Heathline nurses can also direct you to the nearest GP clinic or after-hours pharmacy.

For free confidential health advice from a registered nurse this Easter, phone Healthline on 0800 611 116.

The Healthline service is provided under contract to the Ministry of Health by Medibank Health Solutions NZ.
