Broadbent Wrong – Fluoride is a Poison

Broadbent Wrong – Fluoride is a Poison

Press Release - Fluoride Action Network NZ

8th July 2013

Hydrofluorosilcic acid (HFA) that is added to most of the fluoridated water supplies in New Zealand is a class 8 poison, and internationally classified as “acutely toxic”. So Jonathan Broadbent’s claim on Q&A, Sunday, that it is not a poison is simply wrong.

An acute lethal dose of silicofluoride is a little more than a tablespoon. Its toxicity is rated between that of lead and arsenic. Tubes of fluoride toothpaste in the USA carry a mandatory warning “If you swallow more than a pea size amount, contact a poison control center”.

According to Chris Nokes, Senior Scientist Environmental Science and Research, HFA “is produced during the manufacture of super phosphate fertilizer and is also corrosive and hazardous.” The Manufacturer’s Safety Data Sheet says that fluoride is “Corrosive to metals. Reacts violently with bases, and organic chemicals”, it also says that “Avoid contaminating waterways. If contamination of sewers or waterways has occurred advise local emergency services.”

Mr Broadbent’s further claim that fluoride has been shown safe by 60 years of research is also incorrect. The York Review in 2000 stated that fluoridation promoters never did any safety studies on fluoride. In 2003 the US Environmental Protection Agency stated that fluoridation chemicals had never been tested for human health safety and asked for such research to be done. It still hasn’t.

Adding this highly toxic substance to the community water supply is based on junk science, as confirmed by the York Review, and is much more about protecting people’s reputations than protecting people’s health.

Poisonous fluoride with your water anyone?
