Poor dental care likely to cause serious health issues for dogs

This month Eukanuba, leaders in premium nutrition, are highlighting the need for good oral hygiene for dogs with the introduction of Eukanuba 3D DentaDefense™ across their entire range of adult and senior dog food.

“Dental disease is one of the most commonly seen problems in dogs. By the age of three, up to 85% of dogs have dental disease. If left, it can lead to long term health issues such as heart, liver and kidney infections. However, with nutrition such as Eukanuba, specially designed to aid in tartar control and an appropriate oral hygiene program you can significantly slow the decline whilst protecting your dog’s health and happiness”, comments Masterpet Veterinarian Dr Justine Alley.

Most pet owners at some point have endured the dreaded ‘doggie breath’ but what many don’t realise is that bad breath in dogs is not normal and should be investigated. Just like humans, when plaque accumulates and tartar builds on dogs’ teeth bacteria thrive. Unchecked, these bacteria may cause serious gum disease and infection in the mouth and the rest of the body.

Knowing that only 10% of pet owners regularly brush their dog’s teeth Eukanuba has introduced Eukanuba 3D DentaDefense™ across their entire adult and senior range of dog food. Eukanuba 3D DentaDefense™ has been shown to reduce tartar build-up by up to 80%.

How does it work?

Eukanuba 3D DentaDefense™ dual action technology has been designed to clean with every bite. The new S-shaped kibble, with increased surfaces, reaches more of the tooth’s surface and crevices to abrasively scrub away plaque. After eating, between meals, Eukanuba’s dental technology helps to keep tartar-forming materials from depositing on the tooth, even in difficult to reach areas such as in between teeth. Eukanuba then provides optimal calcium levels for maintenance of strong teeth.

The addition of 3D DentaDefense™ to every bag, has not affected the much-loved recipe. Dogs will continue to enjoy their favourite food with no change to the great taste. The introduction of Eukanuba 3D DentaDefense™ means Eukanuba is the only brand to include dental benefits in every adult and senior bag of food, ensuring you can protect your dog’s dental health and give them the best diet for their life-stage and lifestyle.

Is your dog a star? Enter them in the Eukanuba FACTOR?

To celebrate the launch of Eukanuba’s 3D DentaDefense™, Eukanuba are looking for a dog with a winning smile to star in their next print advert in Mindfood magazine. In addition the winner will receive a prize pack worth $5,000.

To enter your dog, see other contestants and vote for your favourites visit www.Facebook.com/EukanubaNZ.

Competition opens 1 Aug and closes 27 Sept 2013. For full terms and conditions apply.
