Matakina Formally Launches New Breast Cancer Detection Software
Wellington Company Builds on Global Success of First Product to Launch New Life Saving Technology
Wellington, 4th October 2013 – Matakina International today announced the launch of a range of new breast cancer detection solutions based around its key intellectual property relating to quantifying breast composition, Volpara. The solutions were formally launched alongside a new website, www.volparasolutions.com by the Mayor of Wellington, Celia Wade-Brown.
Matakina’s first solution, VolparaDensity is an FDA-cleared product able to consistently and objectively report breast composition. It is in global use and has been sold into more than 10 countries. “VolparaDensity is our core product, but it is the key to many, many more innovations that we can bring to market that will help reduce the number of women who die from breast cancer each year in New Zealand and globally,” Matakina’s CEO, Dr Ralph Highnam, stated.
“VolparaAnalytics is the second product, and represents the realization that we are collecting very important information which understood in the correct context allows us to monitor critical parts of the breast screening process in order to spot issues and resolve them early. In fact, we’ve already resolved two significant quality issues in clinics in Ohio and New York,” says Dr Highnam.
Dr Vikas Patel from Upstate Medical Physics, A Landauer Medical Physics Partner, said: “The measurements have already proven effective in identifying issues at several facilities and have enabled us to resolve them in a timely manner. This is a very useful tool and the volumetric context is critical to understanding how a particular unit functions.”
In formally launching the new website, Celia Wade-Brown, Mayor of Wellington, said “Matakina is a great example of smart, innovative thinking from a Wellington based global IT company, solving a hugely important health issue. With their new recruitment drive it’s fantastic to see them go from strength-to-strength, and continuing to recruit people on the strength of us being a high-tech, compact, cosmopolitan capital.”
