Caltex Boosting Safety

Caltex Boosting Safety
New law requires children to remain in booster seats until their seventh birthday
Caltex offering 10% off the price of all child car seats purchased at The Baby Factory with exclusive voucher
New Zealand, 7 OCTOBER 2013 – From November 1st, New Zealand’s child restraint laws will change requiring children to use an approved child restraint up to their seventh birthday.

The move comes in an effort to improve the safety of children travelling in vehicles, following evidence demonstrating that many school age children are too small to safely use adult seatbelts. Safekids Aotearoa, the child injury prevention service of Starship Children’s Health, acknowledged the Government for updating New Zealand’s child restraint laws.

Safekids Aotearoa also advises parents that, regardless of age, school-age children are safest in a booster seat until they are 148cm tall.

With support from Caltex, The Baby Factory and the Starship Foundation, Safekids Aotearoa has developed a booster seat programme to help schools prepare for changes to New Zealand’s child restraint rule, as well as provide further information regarding the 148cm recommendation.

“The efforts made by Caltex, The Starship Foundation and The Baby Factory have been essential to increasing awareness of our campaign and reducing the costs for Kiwi families to comply with the new law through the voucher scheme,” says Ann Weaver, Director of Safekids Aotearoa.

To raise awareness and assist with compliance, Caltex are offering a voucher for 10% off any booster seat, including already discounted items, purchased at The Baby Factory before November 8th. The vouchers are available from participating Caltex stations nationwide, as well as via the Safekids Aotearoa booster seat programme kits sent to primary schools throughout New Zealand.
