Integrated Operations Centre goes live at Capital & Coast

Integrated Operations Centre goes live at Capital & Coast DHB

Capital & Coast staff celebrated a new era for patient care and staffing this week with the launch of a new Integrated Operations Centre for Kenepuru and Wellington Hospitals.

An integrated operations centre (IOC) is a central hub from where the day’s activity and responses are coordinated. It enables key teams to use real time information for clinical and operational decision making across the organisation.

Executive director Delwyn Hunter says approximately 298,000 people depend on Capital & Coast DHB staff to make the right decision for their health care needs every day.

“This central hub will enable us to coordinate activity and responses to meet demand as our population ages and their needs become more complex,” she says.

Interim chief executive Debbie Chin says the IOC is “a ‘whole of hospital’ commitment to better patient outcomes and safe staffing levels”.

“We know that collaboration is key when it comes to ensuring shorter, safer journeys for hospital patients and an environment like this brings the whole organisation together to achieve that.”

“At a practical level this means utilising high tech screens, which display information to provide a better understanding of bed occupancy, patient care needs and staffing requirements.”

Technological support to be rolled out for the IOC over the next nine months includes TrendCare software to inform staffing levels and electronic whiteboards at the ward level to assist clinical decision making.

“Hutt Valley DHB is already using electronic whiteboards to good effect and it is great to see the 3DHBs working together to support operational and clinical decision making across the sub-region,” Mrs Chin says.
