Specialists And Others Working in Public Hospital Deserve Credit for Patient Survey Results

“Senior doctors, other health professionals and support staff working in New Zealand’s public hospitals deserve credit for the high levels of satisfaction being recorded by hospital patients,” says Ian Powell, Executive Director of the Association of Salaried Medical Specialists (ASMS).

A Health Quality & Safety Commission survey of more than 6000 people who had stayed in a public hospital last November recorded high levels of overall satisfaction across aspects of their care, such as communication, partnership, coordination of their care, and the meeting of their physical and emotional needs.

The Commission’s media release and a link to the survey results is at http://www.hqsc.govt.nz/news-and-events/media/1994/.

“People working on the front line of public health care are to be congratulated for their hard work, expertise and commitment to providing the best possible treatment and care for patients,” says Mr Powell.

“It can be a very challenging environment to work within due to ongoing financial and other constraints but we are fortunate in New Zealand to have an excellent health workforce providing excellent care.”
