Pharmacy Guilds renew Memorandum of Understanding

MEDIA RELEASE

Pharmacy Guilds renew Memorandum of Understanding

The Pharmacy Guild of New Zealand and the Pharmacy Guild of Australia have signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), strengthening the well-established relationship between the organisations.

Representatives from both Guilds renewed their MOU, first signed in 2012, to facilitate the sharing of resources and information across the Tasman. The new MOU 2015-2017 was signed at a meeting of the Australia/New Zealand Joint Planning Committee at the APP conference on Saturday 14 March on the Gold Coast.

The Committee discussed the major issues facing community pharmacies in their respective countries. The two organisations reaffirmed the need to co-operate to achieve shared goals. This is of importance given the similar issues the pharmacy sectors in each country face. The Committee of officials also discussed primary health networks, and quality assurance measures.

Pharmacy Guild of New Zealand President Ken Orr said “We are pleased to be renewing the MOU and building on our relationship with the Pharmacy Guild of Australia. The patients we serve in our countries can only be better served by the two Guilds working together on areas of common interest. The opportunity to collaborate and strategise together is invaluable and we learn so much about our scope of practice from working with each other.”

Pharmacy Guild of Australia National President George Tambassis said “Our goals are strongly aligned, so it makes good sense for our Guilds to work closely together to better serve the members of both organisations and the patients in both countries.”

The Guilds are voluntary membership organisations committed to ensuring our members realise their professional and business potential while delivering quality professional pharmacy services to the people of New Zealand and Australia.
