Leading innovators in wellbeing establish a fresh direction

Driven by the need to foster innovation and quality in developing wellbeing solutions, globally respected health professionals Dr Hayden McRobbie and Nigel Chee have founded the Dragon Institute. The co-founders felt that the creation of the Dragon Institute would fill an important niche, being solely focused on developing innovative approaches to public health. “In many cases, progress is being held back by entrenched approaches that can limit the ability of individuals and teams to create, test and implement fresh ideas,” says McRobbie. “The Institute aims to foster the progression from clinical and academic work to achieving practical behavioural change for people across a range of health concerns,” he adds.

The organisation will provide an international forum for academic and clinical collaboration. It is already advising health authorities and plans to enter into research, service development and evaluation partnerships with universities, medical training organisations and other funding organisations. “The establishment of the Dragon Institute will generate concepts for health and wellbeing that make a substantial difference to people, particularly in indigenous health,” says Nigel Chee. “We are well underway with a number of projects and partnerships and expect to announce further projects in the future.”

The Institute has set up a Secretariat, based in New Zealand, to serve the Institute’s local and international activities. An Advisory Board is currently being established and will include some of the foremost international academic and clinical leaders, to reflect the opportunity that exists to share experiences and stimulate thinking on health challenges such as smoking, obesity and other critical issues.
