Stroke wise people help save lives

Stroke Foundation media release, 2 April 2015

Stroke wise people help save lives

The Stroke Foundation is launching a new website, Strokewise (www.stroke-wise.org.nz) for Fight Stroke Week (7-12 April). Being stroke wise is all about preventing stroke, seeing the signs of stroke, and taking action to fight stroke in New Zealand.

On the site people can:

> Find out how to lower their risk and prevent a stroke
> Learn to see the signs of stroke and act FAST
> Take a quiz and find out just how stroke wise they are
> Download the stroke riskometer for their smart phone

Stroke Foundation Communications Manager Fraser Pettigrew said: “One of the biggest things people can do to fight stroke is simply inform themselves and others about it. Strokewise takes the essential information that people need to prevent and recognise stroke and makes it accessible to everyone. To fight stroke this week all you have to do is share the link and the information to all your friends and family and make sure that they are stroke wise too.”

To make sharing and spreading the word more personal, readers can print off a poster on which they can write their own action for fighting stroke and share it on facebook or twitter with a ‘stroke wise selfie’.

“People who are stroke wise can save lives,” continued Fraser Pettigrew. “A little knowledge is all it takes. The more people who are stroke wise, the more lives we can save.”
