STIHL Ramps up Chainsaw Safety Campaign

STIHL Ramps up Chainsaw Safety Campaign as Accident Rates Spike

STIHL SHOPs educating Kiwis for Chainsaw Safety Awareness Week, 11-16 May

STIHL Chainsaw Safety Awareness Week returns this May to make some noise about tackling New Zealand’s high accident statistics.

ACC claims for Chainsaw accidents continue to rise with more than two million dollars in claims reported last year*, equating to an average of more than six accidents per day.

STIHL Marketing Manager, Stace Hall, says, “It’s a little worrying that as Chainsaw sales increase, accidents with the tools do too. We’re very passionate about STIHL tools and keeping people safe which is why we continue to invest in our STIHL Safety Awareness Week campaign.”

STIHL’s nationwide campaign kicked-off with a launch event last Wednesday (6 May) at Myers Park in Auckland, where up to forty women donned pink chaps to learn Chainsaw safety tips with kiwi axeman and current STIHL® TIMBERSPORTS® World Champion, Jason Wynyard.

STIHL SHOPs around the country are also hosting a series of Chainsaw training events targeting women. STIHL’s women’s training events, including ladies’ nights and safety breakfasts, will involve a mix of women from both the Dairy Women’s Network and local customer groups. Qualified safety trainers will teach women about the simple safety techniques that can mean the difference between getting the job done and ending up in hospital.

“We believe that raising the issue first-hand with women who are often strong influences in the household is a great place to be,” says Mr Hall.

STIHL will also be supporting St John, the charitable service that is all too familiar with the aftermath of preventable accidents, by donating a portion of the sales proceeds from its limited edition Chainsaw safety packs, including the special pink women’s chaps.

STIHL ambassador, Jason Wynyard says that Chainsaw safety is just like putting on a seatbelt when getting into a vehicle. “It should come naturally. You wouldn’t drive without wearing a seatbelt or go fishing without a life jacket, why would you use a Chainsaw without safety gear?”

STIHL urges all customers to invest in Chainsaw safety equipment and encourages Kiwis to visit their local STIHL SHOP to see how they can get involved with STIHL Chainsaw Safety Awareness Week this year.

STIHL safety products, including chaps, protective glasses and earmuffs, are exclusively available throughout New Zealand at STIHL SHOP Dealers and STIHL stockists. To find your local store simply call 0800 4 STIHL or visit www.stihl.co.nz.
