Mt Ruapehu Rescue for injured Skier

Mt Ruapehu Rescue for injured Skier

The Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter responded to Mt Ruapehu this afternoon for skier injured after falling on ice and plummeting 30 meters over a bluff and down a steep slope. The patient, an Auckland woman, in her 50's, was rescued off the slopes of Mt Ruapehu from outside the Turoa ski-field boundary. The Rescue Helicopter and Turoa Ski Patrol members worked seamlessly together to hover-load the patient from rugged terrain that offered no opportunity for landing, and recovered her back to the Turoa Medical centre for immediate treatment of injuries. The Patient was later airlifted to Whanganui Hospital for further treatment. The rescue helicopter was despatched due to the inaccessible terrain.
