Get walking to support those with dementia!

Alzheimers Auckland is calling for people to join their annual Memory Walk at 9am on the 20th of September at Selwyn Reserve, Mission Bay.

The 5km long fundraising walk is always a fantastic and fun day out – perfect for the whole family – and plays an important role in fundraising for the organisation. It also aims to raise awareness of dementia, and give people it affects, including carers, families and those with the condition, the chance to stand up and be counted. This year, Alzheimers Auckland hopes to raise more awareness, more money, and have more fun than ever before.

It’s free to attend the Memory Walk, but Alzheimers Auckland encourages everyone who takes part to fundraise and/or make a donation.

There are currently 15,000 people with dementia in the greater Auckland region – a number that research shows is expected to double over the next 15 to 20 years. Of course, for every person with the condition, there is a much wider network of family and friends who are affected. In fact, one in two people will be touched by dementia in their lifetime, so you never know when the support of Alzheimers Auckland could be important to you or someone close to you.

Alzheimers Auckland Charitable Trust (AACT) is a not for profit organisation dedicated to providing dementia support services and inspiring those living with dementia to make the most of each day. Alzheimers Auckland believes that with the right support programmes, improved environments, and connection to community, people affected by dementia can continue to make the most of each day.

For those who known someone with dementia, joining Alzheimers Auckland for the 2015 Memory Walk is a wonderful way to honour them, while helping to provide essential support for those affected by the condition.
