Free forum to share latest treatments and supportive care

Free forum to share latest treatments and supportive care with advanced breast cancer patients from around NZ

The NZ Breast Cancer Foundation and Sweet Louise have teamed up to host New Zealand’s first Advanced Breast Cancer Forum, to be held in Auckland on Saturday November 14.

The forum, free to patients and their supporters, will feature presentations from medical experts, therapists, advisers on quality of life issues, and patient advocates. Limited places are still available at the event, which has attracted registrations from patients from all over the country, some of whom have been offered funding to attend.

“Our aim is that everyone who comes to the ABC Forum will leave knowing something they didn’t when they arrived,” said Evangelia Henderson, chief executive of the NZ Breast Cancer Foundation. “For some, it’ll be a new treatment or a clinical trial to discuss with their doctors. For others, it’ll be around improving their day to day life with breast cancer, or finding inspiration to explore new opportunities.”

"This is the first Forum of its kind to be held in NZ. In putting this together we acknowledge those men and women living with advanced breast cancer, a disease that is often misunderstood and overlooked,” said Fiona Hatton, Sweet Louise chief executive. “We hope that this forum will give accurate and reliable information as well as peer/psychosocial support”.

Medical presentations will focus on the latest research and clinical trials, new treatments in NZ and overseas, and navigating the health system. Exercise, diet and family support will be the focus of the quality of life sessions. Multiple cancer survivor and inspirational speaker Phil Kerslake will round off the day with an inspirational talk entitled, “Living better with metastatic breast cancer: with resilience!"

The ABC Forum will be held at Kings School, Remuera Rd, Auckland, on Saturday November 14, 9:00am to 4:30pm. Registration is essential – visit http://tinyurl.com/nzABCForum.

The day is free to attend for patients and their supporters. Medical professionals can attend for a fee of $75.
