Nationwide tradeshow makes disability equipment accessible

Nationwide tradeshow makes disability equipment accessible for all

25 November 2015

People with disabilities, their families and caregivers can now access the best mobility equipment, information and resources available, thanks to disability equipment trade show, Show Your Ability.

Launched 17 years ago by Raglan-based occupational therapist David Guest, the show is aimed at healthcare and rehab professionals, and the general public. Having worked in private practice, community, hospital settings, and as part of the team charged with rehousing residents of Levin’s Kimberly Centre, David has specialty knowledge in the field of disability equipment and housing modifications.

David says it was his experience in the field that led to the show’s inception.

"Show Your Ability was one of those 'wouldn't it be great if ...' moments, wishing that a forum existed for connecting therapists with the very latest equipment for helping people live a full life that celebrates and supports their abilities.”

Today, Show Your Ability is New Zealand’s leading disability and elderly care equipment expo. Featuring more than 40 of the nation’s most innovative equipment, support and information providers, the show has something to offer for both professionals and the public.

“Every year I get great satisfaction out of seeing more and more people all over the country coming along – learning something new and maybe finding something that will change their life for the better," says David.

Exhibiting products including wheelchairs, daily living equipment, mobility aides and portable ramps, the show offers people with disabilities, their family and care providers the opportunity to see the full range of equipment available in New Zealand, first hand. See the latest innovations from around the world of equipment that makes life easier.

Show Your Ability is held annually in five venues nationwide, with free entry. Registrations are now open for exhibitors wishing to participate in the 2016 show, which will run throughout February and March in Auckland, Hamilton, Palmerston North, Christchurch and Dunedin.
