First boys at new Te Kotuku maternity unit twins
The first baby boy has been born at the new Te Kotuku maternity unit at Whangarei Hospital – and it’s twins!
The twins were born after a relatively short labour on Thursday afternoon (subs note: March 3) to mother Navdip Kaur and father Sarbsher Singh, of Dargaville.
Sarbsher Singh said the twins were born on the birthday of his father – who lives in India’s Punjab state – and were his father’s first grandchildren.
The couple initially went to the previous maternity unit, but were redirected to Te Kotuku, which had its official opening last week and has been in operation since Wednesday.
The first girl to be born in Te Kotuku also arrived on Thursday.
Tiles were reserved in the Windows of Northland mosaic at the entrance to the unit for the first girl and boy born there; however, the names of both twins will go on the tile for the boy.
