Countdown Kids Hospital Appeal Launch in Dunedin

Countdown Kids Hospital Appeal Launch at Dunedin Hospital Tomorrow

Dunedin Hospital staff and patients will be celebrating the launch of the Countdown Kids 10th Hospital Appeal tomorrow.

The Appeal helps children like Carter by raising money for much needed medical equipment for 11 children’s wards across the country, including Dunedin Hospital Rotary Children’s Ward.

Carter has a rare chromosome disorder, so rare that he's the only one in the world. Carter faces many challenges on a daily basis which means Carter and his mum spend a lot of time in the Rotary Children's Ward at Dunedin Hospital. It's almost like their second home.

Carters mum Suzy is very grateful to have such a high tech, up-to-date ward, where she knows Carter will receive the very best care to help him get home as quickly as possible. She says a big thank you to Countdown and the local community for getting behind the fundraising.

“The items purchased from the donations over the years make such a positive difference to the experience of hospitalisation for Carter, our family and other children and their families in the southern district,” says Suzy.

Southern DHB’s Nurse Manger for Women’s and Children’s Inpatient Services Otago, Pam Markby says the service is delighted that Dunedin has again been chosen as a recipient of the fundraising venture.

“It’s a privilege to work with the Countdown team who have shown such a commitment to helping children who use our hospital services. We’ve been able to purchase fantastic equipment from the funds raised over the past nine years, and this has made a real difference to children like Carter by improving their stay while in hospital. We’re very grateful to be part of the Appeal,” said Pam.
