Media Release

International research journal e-launch in New Zealand for the first time today

19 August 2016

Te Rau Matatini is pleased to announce the first Aotearoa New Zealand-led release of the online Journal of Indigenous Wellbeing - Te Mauri Pimatisiwin.

Te Mauri - Pimatisiwin journal has a long history and was first published in Canada in 2003 under the leadership of Dr Nancy Gibson and her team at the Edmonton ACADRE Centre.

It provides online accessible, evidence based articles to academics, policy makers and people working at the grassroots level.

Te Rau Matatini Pou Ahorangi Chief Executive, Marama Parore, says her organisation feels very privileged to bring the publication of the journal to Aotearoa New Zealand.

“Te Mauri - Pimatisiwin journal is a unique online based publication where indigenous people can celebrate and publicise programmes or initiatives that are working on the ground in their communities.

“We know indigenous solutions work for indigenous people and this journal will play an important part in connecting new and tested programmes and initiatives with the people who need them,” she said.

Journal Managing Editor and Te Rau Matatini Manager of Research, Dr Kahu McClintock, says the Healing Our Spirit Worldwide Special Edition shows the breadth of research the journal will cover.

“We’ve got contributions from Canada, Hawaii, Australia, the Pacific and here in Aotearoa.

“But what we also need is contributions from people at home, from communities and from Universities. So if you’ve got an idea that you really believe will contribute to the health and wellbeing of indigenous people, please get in touch,” Dr McClintock said.
