Stoptober 2016 has arrived

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 20 September 2016

Stoptober 2016 has arrived

Hāpai the new National Tobacco Control Advocacy service are pleased to promote Stoptober 2016 aimed at supporting thousands of kiwi’s to stop smoking next month.

For many smokers quitting can be one of the hardest things to do, many find it even harder to just get started on a quit journey. So Hāpai are encouraging smokers to sign up online to the one month challenge of being Smokefree. The evidence shows that even after only 4 weeks of being smokefree you are 5 times more likely to be Smokefree for life.

Last year, Stoptober involved a record number of smokers and supporters signing up for the challenge. In particular, many Māori smokers successfully completed the challenge and even remained Smokefree.

Our country adopted the goal of reducing smoking rates to minimal levels, thereby making New Zealand a ‘smokefree’ nation by 2025.

The Hāpai National Tobacco Control Advocacy Service facilitates engagement between a wide range of communities to progress Smokefree 2025.

Stoptober NZ is a fun stop smoking challenge for anyone thinking about ‘kicking butt’. Sign up now for spot prizes, support and resources available on the Stoptober NZ website, go to: www.stoptober.nz and just giving it a go.
