Stoptober Kicks Off Tomorrow

DIARY NOTE 30 SEPTEMBER 2016

STOPTOBER KICKS OFF TOMORROW

Stoptober, a nationwide campaign to reduce smoking starts tomorrow (1st October 2016).

This year, the theme of Stoptober ‘Lets kick butt together,’ encourages people who smoke to engage a support network of friends and whānau to help them stop.

To take part in Stoptober, simply sign-up at the Stoptober website – those who want to stop smoking can pick any day during the month to stop, so you don’t have to worry if you haven’t signed up yet. People are supported throughout the month with emails, social media and activities run by local stop-smoking organisations.

This year one lucky Stoptober participant will win 4 tickets to Raggamuffin, including accommodation.

Tips for a successful Stoptober:

· The first two weeks is the hardest. Reach out to Quitline, your local stop smoking organisation or your doctor for medicine to ease the withdrawal symptoms. This can double your chances of stopping permanently.

· Try and avoid environments that may tempt you to smoke. For example, Friday night work drinks.

· Tell your friends, family and work colleagues about what you’re doing and get them on board to support you during this period of change.

· Follow the Stoptober Facebook page and get support from others that are on the same journey
