Southern DHB staff challenged to come up with innovative ideas

Southern DHB is challenging its staff once again to come up with innovative ideas to improve services to the community.

This year, 27 applications will be judged at the Southern Innovation Challenge, a competition designed for Southern District Health Board staff to present their innovative ideas to a panel. The winners are awarded funding which enables them to implement their ideas with the support of the DHB Performance team.

Cherie McConville, Southern DHB Director of Performance said that, “this year’s applicants need to show that their idea identifies with Southern District Health Board’s seven patient priorities and seven staff priorities.

“Every year we have such diverse entries from a mixture of staff so it’s always difficult to choose the winners.”

Ideas range from the use of technology to provide information to patients for various services, one-on-one walking clinics, a wellbeing programme, educational tools, and mural art to brighten up an in-patient area.

Southern DHB Chief Executive Chris Fleming is looking forward to being part of the Challenge. “I’ve heard a lot about the innovation programme here at Southern DHB which is a great way to empower our staff and ultimately create a better services for our community. It fits in really well with the DHBs priorities and demonstrates our staff actively participating in ‘Owning Our Future.”

The Southern Innovation Challenge will take place on Friday 21 October in the Wakari Hospital Boardroom, with a video conference link in the morning to Southland Hospital Boardroom. The winners will be announced at a ceremony on 9 November.
