Leakage is no laughing matter!

Leakage is no laughing matter!

With over 30 per cent of women with children experiencing leakage and all menopausal women at risk of leakage it makes sense for every woman to exercise their pelvic floor muscles.

Award-winning personal trainer Vicki Zumbraegel of Gratitude Fitness says pelvic floor issues can impact every aspect of a woman’s life from career paths to relationships and World Continence Awareness Week which runs from 19th -25th of June is the perfect time to shine a spotlight on this important, yet often unspoken issue.

“I know from personal experience just how much of an impact pelvic floor issues can have on a woman’s life.

“In my case, it stopped me pursuing a career as a flight attendant because I was terrified of my pelvic floor issues interrupting my work schedule.

“This experience drove me towards a career as a personal trainer and gave me a passion for finding a way to help myself and other women to reclaim their freedom so they could feel comfortable in every situation.”

Vicki, a registered nurse, developed an award-winning online programme for pelvic floor safe exercises.

While the exercises focus on the pelvic floor muscles, additional benefits also include improved fitness, strength, flexibility, health and well-being.

“Being able to laugh with confidence, sneeze with ease and cough or exercise without fear of leakage really transforms the lives of so many women.

“By reclaiming their pelvic floor and core, women actually regain their freedom. Leakage is an issue that we often don’t talk about openly yet it has a huge impact on confidence and daily activities.”

With this in mind, Vicki is hosting an empowering pelvic floor seminar to give women of all ages the tools to train and protect these vital muscles at the City YMCA on Monday 19th June to kickstart World Continence Awareness Week.

The event also features Maree Frost from Maree Frost Physiotherapy who specialises in treating bladder and bowel issues, prolapse and pelvic pain. Special guest Joanna Giles from Love Your Look will be sharing her personal styling tips by demonstrating her look good, feel good styling system which has boosted the confidence of thousands of women.

Vicki says the event is designed to get women talking about pelvic floor issues in a safe and relaxing environment while providing practical tips to allow women to get their freedom back.

“It’s common to hear women laugh and say, “I laughed so hard I wet myself!” and take it as an accepted part of being older or having children but it doesn’t have to be this way.

“Pelvic floor exercises can help improve bladder control, boost self-confidence, enhance sexual sensation and better your quality of life.

“I would like to encourage women of all ages to pay attention to their pelvic floor and core muscles. It’s never too early or too late to protect and improve your pelvic floor muscles.”
