Say goodnight to cancer with National Sleep-in Day

Thursday 17 May, 2018

Vodafone calls on Kiwis to say goodnight to cancer with National Sleep-in Day

Thousands of Kiwis have taken up the opportunity to say goodnight to cancer through the Vodafone Foundation DreamLab app.

The Vodafone DreamLab app, which launched last week, uses the processing power of smartphones to crunch cancer research data. The app then sends the calculations back to the Garvin Institute to help fast track cancer research – all while you sleep.

This Friday 18 May marks National Sleep-in Day, and Vodafone CEO Russell Stanners is calling for all New Zealanders to download the app and join in on the day.

“We’re giving our staff an extra hour of cancer-solving sleep by starting work one hour later on Friday. This includes our retail stores so if you’re planning to visit, come by from 10am onwards.

“We’re delighted that more than 60 businesses are joining us for National Sleep-in Day by encouraging their teams to download the app and start work late that day.

“The more Kiwis who download and use it, the faster it crunches data, and the closer researchers can get to find a cure,” Russell said.

Vodafone Foundation Manager, Lani Evans, said it is heartening to see the success of the Vodafone DreamLab app in such a short amount of time.

“We’ve seen the app soar to #1 in the App Store for Health and Science and the #1 spot in the Lifestyle category on the Google Play Store. This really is a testament to the support that Kiwis are putting behind the app and the cause,” Lani said.
