Asthma Device Firm Doubles Half-Year Turnover

Asthma Device Firm Doubles Half-Year Turnover

Asthma & Respiratory Devices NZ, the exclusive local distributor of nSpire Health's range of asthma devices, has reported a dramatic increase in half-year sales and profit compared with last year.

Sales more than doubled compared to the same period last year, a result director Murray Webb attributes partly to a broadened distribution network. "We used to sell exclusively through 250 or so pharmacies in the upper North Island, but have picked up another 100 pharmacies further down the country. What we didn't anticipate is the pharmacies further south having much higher sell-through rates of our products - areas like Wanganui, New Plymouth, Whakatane and parts of Wellington have quite severe asthma issues amongst their populations".

Asthma & Respiratory Devices NZ has also established partnerships with Allergy NZ and Asthma New Zealand. "For them, our anti-static mini spacer was the attraction," Webb continues. "It is less than half the size of asthma spacers patients get from their doctors - this means sufferers can easily carry the device in a purse, pocket or schoolbag. Portability and convenience is a huge factor".

The next step for the company is the launching of hand-held electronic asthma monitors into GP clinics. "Most GPs don't have immediate access to anything more sophisticated than mechancial peak flow meters, which is 50 year old technology. For less than the cost of a cheap cellphone, we can change that."
