Queenstown dines out for Ronald McDonald House South Island

Mystery dining event brings together Queenstown’s top restaurants in support of sick children and their families

Some 26% of families that need to stay at Ronald McDonald House South Island are from the Southern District Health Board region.

The House provides free accommodation and support to families from all over New Zealand who need to travel to Christchurch for their child’s hospital care. Some families stay for a few nights, others for many months and frequent visits depending on the illness and treatment involved.

Next week a number of Queenstown’s top restaurants will be hosting simultaneous dinner parties to help raise funds for the Christchurch-based charity.

Supper Club, Ronald McDonald House South Island’s iconic fundraising gala event, is to be held in the town for the third consecutive year.

The evening revolves around a mystery dining experience, whereby people buy a table of eight for $1000 – the price of which includes a pre-dinner cocktail function at Skyline, three-course dinner at a top restaurant and an after-party at Barmuda.

Guests will not know the restaurant they will be dining at until the actual night, following the results of a random draw at the cocktail function.

Participating restaurants are not only donating their time and expertise, but also the ingredients needed to prepare the meals. All proceeds raised on the night will go directly to Ronald McDonald House South Island.

Guests will have the chance to dine in some of Queenstown’s top restaurants, including Botswana Butchery, Gantleys, Wakatipu Grill at The Hilton, The Millhouse at Millbrook, True South Dining Room at The Rees, Skyline, Wai Waterfront Restaurant, threesixty at Crowne Plaza, Wild Thyme at Skycity Casino and Ben Lomond at Rydges.

“We are absolutely thrilled that we can once again bring this iconic event to Queenstown, and judging from past Supper Clubs we are expecting it to be a huge success,” said Ronald McDonald House South Island corporate sponsorship manager Lizzie Dyer.

“Many of the families that need to stay at the House are from the wider Central Otago and Queenstown Lakes area, and by supporting Supper Club you are helping to provide a ‘home away from home’ for these families when they need it the most.”

Supper Club Queenstown will be held on Thursday November 17, 2011.
