Ward M5
Haematology and Oncology blessing
About 70
Waikato DHB staff and supporters gathered on Tuesday 26
November to bless the refurbished Ward M5 Haematology and
Oncology. The new ward replaces the old Ward 25 located on
Level 3 Smith Building.
The 3:30pm ceremony was led by Te Puna Oranga and the hospital chaplains.
Waikato DHB chief operating officer Jan Adams and Regional Cancer Centre’s nurse manager Kate Yeo acknowledged the effort and energy of all involved in the build.
“Everyone has done such a wonderful job.
This is the build that has challenged us the most because of
the demolishing of the Smith building. However, out of all
the ideas put forward, this was the best and many have
worked to make the new facility and services look
fantastic,” said Ms Adams.
“Oncology and haematology
touch many lives. These new facilities provide a good
starting point to go forward.”
“We have had the
honour of working with user groups and organisations that
raise funds and provide support to improve the patients and
families’ experience. Without them our service would be
less than we would like,” said Ms Yeo.
“The Cancer
Society, the Haematology Society, Hospice Waikato and many
others keep the patient at the centre of what we do”
Special thanks go to Kevin Bardsley and construction team, project manager Ros Morell, Raewyn Culvert for the design of the ward, consultant haematologist Dr Humphrey Pullon and Gabby Reynolds for design and planning.
Patients and staff will move into the new ward on Thursday 29 November.
