Tony Ryall Opening Much Needed Dementia Hospital And Retirement Village

Parklands dementia hospital and Parklands on Papanui retirement village apartments will be officially opened tomorrow by Health Minister Tony Ryall in a public ceremony. The celebration will also be attended by Christchurch East MP Lianne Dalziel, community groups, residents and relatives plus representatives of the Christchurch District Health Board.

To celebrate the ceremony will begin at 11am with an official Maori welcome by Rev George and Wyn Ehau with ribbon cutting by Tony Ryall.

The $18 investment includes additional care beds at Parklands Hospital making their care offering a total of 72 hospital beds and 65 specialised dementia care beds and resident lounge areas. In addition to this the development brings 34 one and two bedroom retirement village apartments, an activities centre, resident dining and lounge areas plus a library. Other services include wellness clinics and an onsite hairdresser.

Providing care and independent living options to older people in the community is a specialty of Bupa Care Services with 49 rest homes and hospitals and 22 villages nationwide including six care homes in Christchurch; Bethesda, Cashmere View, Parklands, Maidstone, Parkwood and St Nicolas as well as two retirement villages; Parklands on Papanui and Cashmere View.
