AEDs And Training For Samoa

Next week one of three trustees from Vivere, Byron Williams is travelling to Apia Samoa to deliver 3 new AEDs (Automatic External Defibrillators) and training on how to use them to both FESA (the Fire Emergency Service Authority) and the NHS (National Health Service). His trip to Apia has been part funded by MFAT in New Zealand.

These AEDs have been purchased by the Samoan Fire and Emergency Service with the assistance of Vivere and are the first AEDs in Samoa which will be available for use in the wider community. Both Vivere and FESA are delighted to be able to work together again to improve first response medical care in Samoan communities.

Mr Williams will not only deliver the AEDs, but will provide training in their use to staff from FESA and the hospital ambulance service. He is looking forward to returning to Samoa for the second time this year to deliver further staff training and much needed medical supplies.

It is particularly appropriate the AEDs have been purchased now, as Apia is to host the United Nations SIDS (Small Island Developing States) conference in September. It is the aim of first response services in Samoa to be ready to provide the best medical care possible in the community should this be needed, and Vivere is delighted to be able to help with this.
