Human Rights Commission welcomes Todd Foundation’s investment in Christchurch’s children

The Todd Foundation’s investment in the children and young people of Christchurch has been welcomed by the Human Rights Commission.

“The foundation’s new initiative ‘Our Christchurch: A project for Christchurch’s children and youth – today and tomorrow’ is a brilliant example of leadership by investing long term in Christchurch’s people, children and future,” said Chief Human Rights Commissioner David Rutherford.

“Most New Zealanders will never know what it is like to survive a major natural disaster and its aftermath. Many people, families and children of Canterbury are still struggling and this kind of ongoing support is critical.”

‘Our Christchurch’ is part of the Foundation’s ongoing support of the city and Canterbury after the earthquakes. In 2010 $100,000 was donated to the Salvation Army to support earthquake recovery and from 2011 to 2013 the Todd Foundation Earthquake Recovery Fund gave $2 million to support community renewal and the recovery of the not-for-profit sector. The Foundation also provides on-going support for Christchurch projects through its nationwide General Fund.
The foundation’s will work with Christchurch-based youth organisations to recruit a panel of local youth to sit alongside Todd trustees as part of the selection process.

Applications will be accepted through the Todd Foundation website www.toddfoundation.org.nz/our-christchurch between 25 August and 25 September 2014.
