NOTE: Today, May Day 2000, is D-Day for a global carnival against capitalism with demonstrations planned all around the globe. Demonstrations are planned in several NZ cities including Auckland, Christchurch, Wellington, Auckland, Hamilton and Dunedin. Scoop will provide live running news of the protests today and tomorrow (when May Day arrives in the US). The following is our first report of the day. For the latest news on the protests see… http://www.scoop.co.nz/mayday2k.

An anonymous email has been received by Scoop stating that May Day activists plan to Reclaim the Streets of Christchurch by messing with the traffic signals.

"During the day, some traffic lights will be switched to RED", the email read.

The communique goes on to state that they "have the expertise and knowledge to do this" and have already completed one this morning.

"Lights will be changed at busy intersections at busy times blocking traffic at major intersections throughout Christchurch." is also stated.
