Census Burnings Promised

First broadcast by Lindsay Perigo on Radio Pacific's Politically Incorrect Show

Today I want to read to you the note I shall be attaching to my census form. It is self-contained & self-explanatory. I am making it freely available to anyone who wants to follow suit. It will be posted on my web site later today - www.freeradical.co.nz - under "Latest PI Show editorial." Feel free to copy & distribute as you see fit. If you're not on the Internet, send a stamped, addressed envelope to me at Radio Pacific, Private Bag, Ponsonby, Auckland, & I'll send you a copy. On census night itself, there will be various gatherings at which copies of the form will be ceremonially burned. Stay tuned for details of those. Here is my note:

To whom it may concern

"Civilisation is the progress toward a society of privacy. The savage's whole existence is public, ruled by the laws of his tribe. Civilisation is the process of setting man free from men." - Ayn Rand

I want you to know that I object utterly to the government's demanding personal information from me at gunpoint, as per the accompanying 2001 Census form, & that I have acquiesced only because your gun at my head - the brutal penalty regime for non-compliance - gives me no alternative, other than a futile martyrdom whereby you would hijack more of my earnings (as if you didn't steal enough of them already) into your soiled coffers until I was bankrupt.

"Morality ends where a gun begins." The government's action in forcing its citizens to fill out these forms is a thoroughly immoral travesty of its proper function, which is to protect people's rights - to "set man free from men" - not to violate them in this wanton manner. The greatest immorality is the initiation of force by one party against another. THAT is what the government should be protecting us from, not itself practising. So do NOT construe my compliance as moral sanction of your evil. You are coercive monsters against whom I hope one day your victims will rebel. "The spirit of man ... may sleep, but it will awaken. It may wear chains, but it will break through." In the meantime, in the name of the glorious ideal of human liberty, whose mortal enemy you are, I invite you to insert the accompanying census form where your morals are currently located.

Yours in freedom
