Scoop Images: Genoa’s First G8 Demonstration |
||
The following images are of the “No Borders” demonstration held in support of immigrants rights in Genoa this morning New Zealand Time. All images are from the Italian Indymedia Website.
At least 50,000 people met in the late afternoon local time to march through the town along the red zone which has been sealed off by police. Migrants, greens, anarchists, communists, members of non-governmental organisations and many more demonstrated against the G8-meeting, and particularly against the fact that while borders are constantly being opened for money and for the rich they are closed for refugees and the poor.
Accordingly, hundreds of people have been prevented to reach Genoa in the past days. This successful and peaceful demonstration was the first in a series of anti-G8 protests this weekend.
