Republicans Poised For Senate Victory
The Republican Party is poised to win control of both houses of Congress in the mid-term elections with a victory in Minnesota, and a fightback in South Dakota.
In earlier counting South Dakota had looked as if it would swing to the Democrats leaving Minnesota as the key seat to watch.
However by 2am Wednesday EST Senator John Thune had staged a fightback in South Dakota and was leading by 2500 votes.
Meanwhile in Minnesota former US Vice-President Walter Mondale is trailing his Republican challenger by 28,000 votes with 40% of precincts reporting.
