NEWSFLASH: Major Immigration Changes Imminent

According to ACT Leader Richard Prebble speaking under a point of order in Parliament a major government announcement has been this afternoon to media, "turning the immigration system on its head".

Mr Prebble said the announcement from Lianne Dalziel had been made to media already. He said the government was removing the points system of eligibility and replacing it with a skills based system. And he said that the Government intended to move urgency in order to push the change through.

Mark Burton spoke against Mr Prebble's point of order saying that announcements do not have to be made to Parliament.

Assistant Speaker Anne Hartley ruled out the point of order saying announcements of such things need not by convention made to Parliament.
