Poems: Occupation Sticker Albums - Warning Words

Occupation Sticker Albums
For Palestinian and Iraqi Dead

By Genevieve Cora Fraser

NOTE: "Intifada Sticker Albums" are now a popular item among Palestinian children who collect scenes of the intifada the way western children collect sports and Hollywood star photo cards. The albums are viewed as a matter of pride in support of resistance to Israel's brutal occupation.

The coin of hate
Has two sides
Have morphed into one
Obscene occupation
Falluja, Ramadi, Baquba
Rafah, Jenin, Nablus
Snipers shoot from on high
As demigods
Into their prey
Through blood splattered windshields
Ambulance driver
Dead eyes
At silhouetted troops
Against a steel grey sky
Pictures of dead martyrs
Onto album
Scenes of the blood soaked
Heralding resistance
To an Arab world's
Adrift on the Dead Sea
Scrolls of images
Decapitated, amputated, eviscerated
Grandfathers stripped
Naked with humiliation gunned
Fathers butchered along dusty roads
Mothers crushed babes in arms
Naked child detainees
By the sweaty hands
Of trigger happy
Occupation overwhelming force
Brimming with hate
See Al-Aqsa mosque
A sacred site
A masked fighter holds a gun
Battle with an Apache helicopter
Half a shekel
Buys one album
One coin buys two
Palestine and Iraq
A new testament
To an old struggle
Small streams and springs
Feed the river to the sea
Of bloody revenge
The poor slaughtered
By cash cowed
Bedded down with corporate greed

Words of Warning Israel

By Genevieve Cora Fraser

One light is burning
Past the hour of sleep
I dream waking
Anguished Israel
Your soldiers wait
To taunt and to kill
Exchange bullets for rocks
Between soldiers and child

Hour after hour tanks
Push death into life
Hope to despair Israel
Palestine's Holocaust
Draws near as you fear
A victim's revenge
Day or night
Might strike

A Zionist dream
Conquest and might
Blames the victim
Shame on you mighty Israel
As you vanquish a people
Steal their Lands
Heritage and rights
You think
They won't fight Israel
Hated and feared
You'll loose all you hold
Dear Israel

You insist they not resist
As you incarcerate Palestine
United in hope given the rope
You will hang by your evil
Israel believed by the naïve
You continue to deceive
Israel but the day of reckoning
Draws near and one thing
Is clear if Palestine is enslaved
Or sent to their grave
A pyrrhic victory
Will be your undoing
Zionist Israel

The whole world
Is watching Israel

Gordon Campbell: On The Politicising Of The War On Drugs In Sport

It hasn’t been much fun at all to see how “war on drugs in sport” has become a proxy version of the Cold War, fixated on Russia. This weekend’s banning of the Russian long jumper Darya Klishina took that fixation to fresh extremes. More>>

Few sights are sadder in international diplomacy than seeing an aging figure desperate for honours. In a desperate effort to net them, he scurries around, cultivating, prodding, wishing to be noted.
