Hikoi Marchers Reach Parliament
The first marchers in a 10,000+ Hikoi have reached Parliament where around 200 police have gathered to ensure security prevails. Officers have manned barricades. Seats have been laid out for the more elderly members of the Hikoi – as a march of disrespect the seats face away from Parliament buildings.
Scoop’s Alastair Thompson, reporting from the Hikoi, says the tail end of this Hikoi will not get to Parliament until well after 1pm: “This is the biggest protest Wellington has seen in a very very long time,” Alastair Thompson says.
