On a hot day in Wellington the Prime Minister dealt with the hot issue of the day – namely her political rival National leader John Key and his first big speech. Mr Key told an audience at the Burnside rugby clubrooms earlier in the afternoon that there was an underclass developing in New Zealand and that he wanted to 'turbo charge' efforts to assist them by working with private charity providers. The Prime Minister pointed out to the assembled media that more people were in employment under her stewardship and thus escaping from the underclass.

There was also some discussion of the Fiji coup and the prospect of what sort of relationship New Zealand would have with Fiji should Commodore Frank Bainimarama be elected Prime Minister.

The PM also commented very briefly on the continuing saga of embattled, garden leave enjoying, Labour MP Taito Philip Field.
