NEWSFLASH: Maori Party Support S59 Repeal
Reported by Kevin List at Parliament
The Maori Party has announced that it will be supporting the unamended S59 repeal bill – the so-called "anti-smacking" Bill – of Green MP Sue Bradford.
The announcement was made moments ago by Maori Party Co-Leader Dr Peter Sharples.
In practical terms it means it is now likely that the private members bill will be passed as proposed by Bradford, I.E. National MP Chester Burrow's amendment is likely to fail tomorrow when the bill receives its 3rd and final reading.
Full audio coverage of the Maori Party and Green Party Press Conferences being held today will be posted on Scoop later this afternoon.
