Images: Iraq Invasion Peacefully Remembered At Parliament

On a glorious autumnal day in Wellington a modest crowd gathered outside Parliament to protest at, and remember, the United States invasion and occupation of Iraq. As well as protesting the United States led invasion of Iraq, New Zealand politicians such as Prime Minister Helen Clark and Defence Minister Phil Goff got a tongue lashing from certain sections of the crowd. Currently the New Zealand PM is winging her way to the United States where she will be meeting US President George W Bush.

Although todays' protest may well have been the kind of event Ms Clark may once have enjoyed attending in the 1960s the demands of her role as the PM and global geopolitics mean that it is unlikely she will giving Mr Bush a stern dressing down while in Washington. As well as anti-war speeches the crowd at today's protest was able to enjoy a spot of music and some vegetable concoctions reminiscent of the sort of food one would be likely to find at a Hare Krishna restaurant.

Chances are, scrapping the system of trial by jury is not the top priority for most New Zealanders. Not many of us woke up this morning and felt dead keen on dumping our centuries-old right to be tried by a jury of our peers, while yearning to adopt the French system of justice by a judge and a couple of court-appointed experts.
