France Presidential Elections: Sarkozy Keeps Right In Power

The International Herald Tribune reports Nicolas Sarkozy, an immigrant's son who had the
French presidency in his sights for three decades, won a
decisive victory in the election Sunday, keeping the right
in power for the next five years.
The fiery former interior minister obtained 53 percent of the vote, according to preliminary results from the Interior Ministry. His Socialist rival, Ségolène Royal, received 47 percent, ending her quest to become France's first female head of state and dealing a severe blow to her Socialist Party.
