Justice: Privy Council Judgment Rules
David Bain Conviction A Miscarriage of Justice
The
Privy Council has issued its judgment in the David Bain
appeal case that sought to have his conviction in 1995 for
the murder of his family quashed. The Privy Council law
lords ruled the: "appeal should be allowed, the convictions
quashed and a retrial ordered. The appellant must remain in
custody meanwhile." It states "a substantial miscarriage of
justice has actually occurred... At any retrial it will be
decided whether the appellant is guilty or not, and nothing
in this judgment should influence the verdict in any way."

There Is Not A Microchip In The Gold Card. There Has Never
Been A Microchip In The Gold Card
Seniors should ignore scaremongering over the
future use of microchips in the SuperGold Card as it is
based on misinformation and distortions, Associate Senior
Citizens Minister Winston Peters said today. "The facts are
simple – the card will not be issued with a microchip when
it is launched in August," Mr Peters said. "Legislation
currently before the House covers microchip technology
simply to future-proof the card for the fast-approaching day
when magnetic strips and barcodes become redundant." More

Environment: Special Action Team Forms To Deal With
Troublesome Trees -
Wilding conifers are increasingly a scourge
on the landscape. Now for the first time, all agencies and
land managers concerned about the pest trees have banded
together, forming a group to research the extent of the
problem, and how best to deal with it. Wilding conifers are
mainly found in the eastern South Island, covering tens of
thousands of hectares from Marlborough to Southland,
including iconic areas such as Craigieburn, Lake Tekapo and
Queenstown. More

solo onto the stage, his eyes twinkling. He spoke to the
hearts of his audience of tradition, of dangers, and of
times when our past challenges our present. The man was

Global: Planning For The Post-Wolfowitz Era
Andreas von Warburg writes: Since the creation of the World
Bank, the President of the United States has had the
prerogative to choose and nominate the head of the
organization. To keep that prerogative, the White House is
now working behind the curtains, with a cautious,
wait-and-see sort of approach. More
