In the official statement, Australia prime minister, John Howard, said he selected Driza-Bone as the national outfit "with counsel and good advice" from his wife, Janette, and the APEC taskforce.
Each APEC leader was given a choice of four contrast colours: slate blue, mustard yellow, red ochre and eucalyptus green. New Zealand prime minister Helen Clark chose mustard yellow.
