The Prime Minister held an early post-cabinet press conference, prior to leaving for the Pacific Islands Forum later today.

Cabinet had received a briefing from the Police Minister on the shooting of Halatau Naitoko and Mr Key discussed possible government assistance or compensation for his family.

Other issues included the Pacific Islands Forum and its response to Fiji, as well as Australia's investment fund plans, bank interest rates, the World Economic Forum meeting in Davos, the trouble with Auckland's new motorway and his hopes for the Chinese year of the ox.
