National will vote against John Boscawen's so called "pro-smacking bill" when it comes before the house in two weeks time.
Speaking to assembled media this afternoon John Key said the referendum made it clear there is some public unease over the issue, but the question didn’t ask whether the law should be changed.
He said he is happy with the way the law works now.
Labour are also likely to vote against the bill, guaranteeing its early demise.
