Coming up on the show today:

On October 23, the New Zealand Herald reported that the Search and Surveillance Bill currently before Parliament would give plethora of government departments "sweeping powers to spy, bug conversations and hack into private computers". This gave cause for alarm, especially from many who value civil liberties and privacy. However, the Law Commission, the body who recommended changes be made to police powers, believes theres nothing to worry about, and their Deputy President Dr Warren Young joins at 12:15 to explain why.

Well be catching up with Rochelle and Claire from the Society of Brilliant Ideas, an artist collective based on High St, just above Rakinos. Theyve been up and running for a few months now and have a few more plans up their belt, so stay tuned to hear whats new with them.

Ill joined by Dr Carmel Built, a campaigner against Labtests hegemony of medical laboratory work in Auckland. Labtests are under scrutiny once again following claims that it failed to diagnose cancerous tissue in a 64-year old man with a history of melanoma. Dr Built is one of over 50 doctors in Auckland who are calling for at least half of Aucklands community laboratory work to be contracted to Diagnostic Medlabs, and Ive got her on the show to discuss her position.

13:30

Its time with Dear Science with Peter Griffin from the Science Media Centre. This week, Peter will cover the book The Accidental Billionaires, about the founder of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg and how we allegedly cut three other people out of the Facebook venture. Well also look at the future of public web access.

13:45

Sue Gee is the organizer behind the upcoming literary event Courage: Day of the Imprisoned Writer which is happening this Sunday in Mt Albert. Courage involves the Auckland Branch of the NZ Society of Authors and remembers writers who have been imprisoned and detained for telling their stories. There are a range of speakers and performers featured on the day and Sue joins me on the show to discuss the project in more depth

Aucklanders can tune in at 95 on the FM dial.
